Day 1

Filed Under Filing | Leave a Comment

I’ve tried to keep journals before and always felt the first entry to be the most difficult.  Where do you begin?

Today I filed to run for an At-Large position on the City of Jacksonville’s City Council.

Here’s the run down of how it happened:

Last week I stopped by the Board of Election (a County department) to get some information.  I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, but expected that they would have some sort of hand out.  They wanted to know which position I was seeking in which municipality as well as if I planned to spend more or less than $3,000.  I told them At-Large, Jacksonville and under.

I returned today after doing some business at the court house which is across the street.  I answered the same questions and was given a packet to fill out.  They helped with filling out the forms.  Most the forms were about campaign finances–who’s your treasurer (myself), where’s your account at, etc.  I paid the filing fee ($15) and was done.  While I was there the Mayor stopped in to see who had filed.  I was out the door in under 30 minutes.
